Post Operative/Treatment Instructions - FACE

Please refer to one of the following instructions concerning your specific procedure. Please call the office at any time if you have questions or concerns. We are always available to help. If the office is closed you will be given instructions on how to page Dr. Marble.

Blepharoplasty Post Operative Instructions

1. Keep your head elevated at all times until further notice.
2. Apply ice compresses for the first forty-eight (48) hours after surgery.
3. Take your antibiotics as prescribed.
4. Apply your ophthalmic antibiotic ointment to your sutures twice daily and in your eyes before bedtime at night.
5. Notify Dr. Marble immediately if you have dryness, itching or excessive tearing of the eyes.
6. Avoid aspirin products (this includes Advil, Aleve, Motrin, Ibuprofen).
7. Take 500 milligrams of Vitamin C twice daily.
8. Avoid smoke exposure, sun exposure, and caffeine until further notice.
9. You may use Arnica Gel and/or take Arnica tablets for any bruising you develop around your eyes. This may be found at health food stores, or most pharmacies can order it for you.
10. No lifting, pushing or pulling greater than 10 pounds for 10 days. No direct water contact until 48 hours after suture removal.
11. Walk frequently around your home. However do not perform housework or exercise until you are cleared to do so. No bending over! If you need to lower your body, please squat at knees.
12. No contact lenses, driving, hair spray or exposure to chemicals and eye makeup until further notice.
13. You will need to make an appointment to have your sutures removed five (5) days post-operatively.


Facelift Post Operative Instructions

The Morning After Your Surgery (Post Op, Day 1)
1. Take everything off (facial compression garment, gauze, and tube drains behind both ears; these are small rubber drains and PULL out easily).
2. You may shampoo your hair only. Do not use any conditioner or styling products. Blow dry on low setting or allow your hair to air dry.
3. Apply a thin film of Bacitracin ointment to all incision sites (in front and behind ears). Then apply gauze pads (4”x 4”) and the facial compression garment.
4. You will wear the facial compression garment at all times for the next 2 weeks.

General Instructions
1. Apply ice packs to your face for the 1st 48 hours after surgery. This will reduce your pain and swelling. If you have bruising, you may apply Arnica Gel (available at health food stores or Dr. Marble’s office) directly on the bruised area. Do not apply this on your incision sites.
2. Keep your head elevated at all times. This will reduce pain and swelling.
3. Contact Dr. Marble immediately if you develop a fever, redness around your incision sites, drainage, or increasing pain.
4. Take the full course of your antibiotics as prescribed.
5. Take Vitamin C (500 mg) twice per day for one month. This will reduce your scarring and promote healing.
6. Avoid sun exposure. Your skin will be very sun-sensitive for several months post-op. Wear a hat and sunscreen when you go outside.
7. ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING!!! (second hand smoke exposure as well). Smoking is toxic to your skin and will result in delaying wound healing; as well as result in infection and loss of skin.
8. NO CAFFEINE or ALCOHOL until further notice!
9. Nutrition is important during the healing process. Do not go on a weight-reduction diet for at least one month after surgery.
10. Walk frequently….ABSOLUTELY NO AEROBIC EXERCISE until approved.
An appointment to see Dr. Marble and staff will be made for 7 days post op.


Spider Vein Laser Treatment Instructions

Before beginning any Lyra laser treatment, please review the Lyra Laser Contra-Indications and Treatment Cautions found in the “General” section of our Health Forms page.

Pre-Treatment Instructions:
1. Apply SPF 30 sunblock on all treatment areas that are exposed to the sun.
2. Tell us if you have taken Accutane in the past six months or are planning to begin taking Accutane.
3. Inform us of any changes in medical history since your last visit.
Prior To Treatment, Do Not:
1. Use aspirin, alcohol, NSAID’s (Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, etc.), vitamin E, Gingko and St. John’s wart for 10 days prior to treatment. It is recommended that two Tylenol be taken one hour prior to the procedure.
2. Use Tetracylines and Zithromax for 7 days prior to treatment.

Post Treatment
1. Avoid sun exposure and wear SPF 30 sunblock for one month after treatment on all treated areas that may be exposed to the sun.
2. Cold compresses may be applied to reduce redness and swelling.
3. Apply Hydrocortisone 1% or an antibiotic ointment in a thin layer as directed twice a day.
4. Please call us at the first sign of persistent pain or blistering.
5. Treatment area should be gently washed twice per day with tepid water and mild soap.

Post Treatment, Do Not:
1. Exercise for three days after treatment.
2. Use alcohol, aspirin, Advil, or any blood thinners for five days.
3. Take hot showers, baths, use hot tubs or saunas for five days.

Post Treatment Expectations:
1. Expect some redness and swelling, which may convert to “cat scratch” scab for 2-3 weeks.
2. Facial vein resolution takes up to 2 weeks. At the end of this process, some vessels may be gone while others may be lighter or not affected.


Laser Facial Resurfacing Post Operative Instructions

1. Call Dr. Marble immediately if you develop a fever or increasing pain.
2. Take your antibiotics as prescribed.
3. Nutrition is important. Do not go on a weight-reduction diet for at least one month after your procedure. Do not drink alcohol for at least one month.
4. Take 500 milligrams of Vitamin C twice daily. This will improve your healing.
5. Keep your head elevated at all times until swelling and discoloration have resolved. This will reduce your pain and swelling.
6. Apply ice packs to your face for the first 48 hours post-op. This will also reduce your pain and swelling.
7. At least five times daily, cleanse the area with a diluted vinegar solution (1 tablespoon white vinegar per cup of warm water). Then apply a thin layer of Vaseline. It is very
important that you remove all the crusty material from your face. Failure to do so will result in scarring!
8. Avoid sun exposure. Your skin will be very sun-sensitive for several months post-op. Wear a hat and sunscreen when you go outside.
9. ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING!! Smoking is toxic to your skin and will result in delayed wound healing, infection and loss of skin.


Laser Hair Removal Treatment Instructions

Before beginning any Lyra laser treatment, please review the Lyra Laser Contra-Indications and Treatment Cautions found in the “General” section of our Health Forms page.

Pre-treatment Instructions
1. Apply SPF30 sunblock to treatment areas that are exposed to the sun. You may improve your results by limiting exposure to the sun, tanning beds or tanning lotions for four weeks prior to treatment.
2. Tell us if you have taken Accutane in the past six months or are planning to begin taking Accutane.
3. Inform us if there has been any change in medical history since your last visit.
4. Call us 48 hours prior to your next appointment if no hair re-growth in area to be treated.
5. Shave the area to be treated within 12 hours prior to the treatment. (We can shave and prep you at the regular hourly rate. You must schedule additional time for prep with the front desk.) If treating heavy beard, shave the morning of your appointment.
6. Apply topical anesthetic as directed prior to coming in for your appointment.
7. Do Not wax, tweeze or have electrolysis for four weeks prior to treatment.
8. Do Not use Retin-A or glycolics for 3 days prior to treatment.
9. Do Not use hair removal lotions or hair bleach for 4 weeks prior to treatment.

Post treatment requirements
1. Apply SPF30 sunblock on all treated areas that may be exposed to the sun.
2. Shaving or using clippers are the only acceptable methods of hair removal between treatments.
3. Treatment area should be gently washed twice per day with tepid water and mild soap.
4. Do Not expose the treated area to sun for prolonged periods for four weeks post treatment.
5. Do Not use Retin-A or glycolics for 5 days post treatment.

Post treatment expectations
1. Hair loss will be most evident ten days to two weeks after treatment. After your treatment you may expect a mild sunburn sensation that typically lasts 2-3 hours and redness and swelling that may last 1 day. To treat these side effects, please follow these steps:
2. Cold compresses may be applied to reduce redness and swelling.
3. Apply of 1% hydrocortisone cream or ointment in a thin layer after cold compresses.
4. Please call us at the first sign of persistent pain or blistering.


Restylane Post Treatment Instructions

1. Immediately after the treatment, the most commonly reported side effects were temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days. Cold compresses may be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling. If the inconvenience continues beyond two to three days or if other reactions
occur, please contact our office.
2. Avoid touching the treated area within six hours following treatment. After that, the area can be gently washed with soap and water.
3. Until the initial redness and swelling have resolved, avoid exposure of the treated area to intense heat (sunlamp or sunbathing).
4. If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Please check with our nurse practitioner about medications that may minimize a recurrence.
5. Avoid exercise and alcohol for six hours post-treatment.
6. Evidence shows that having a follow-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect. Please be sure to consult with our nurse practitioner about recommendations for touch-up or follow-up treatments.
7. One week prior to your next treatment with Restlyane®, avoid taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort and high doses of Vitamin E supplements. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.


Temporary Fillers Post Treatment Instructions

1. After your treatment, you might have some redness and swelling. This will normally last less than seven days. Cold compresses may be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling. If the inconvenience continues beyond seven days or if other reactions occur, please contact your physician.
2. Avoid touching the treated area within six hours following treatment. After that, the area can be gently washed.
3. Sunbathing and cold outdoor activities should be avoided until any redness and swelling disappear.
4. If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another recurrence. Speak to your physician about medications that may minimize recurrence.
5. Avoid exercise and alcohol for six hours after treatment.
