How does the laser treatment work?
The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deep into skin tissue where it delivers a controlled amount of targeted therapeutic heat. Candela’s patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™) technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen. Together, the long-pulse laser and DCD cooling offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects.
What can I expect during treatment?
Treatment will take place in our office. You will wear safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light. Your practitioner will guide the laser to the treatment areas with a small handpiece. A treatment could take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area and condition being treated.
Does it hurt?
Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort resolves in several seconds and is minimized by Candela’s DCD cooling.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. For hair removal, multiple treatments are required, as the process is most effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase. Many factors impact the efficacy of individual laser treatments, including the severity of the condition being treated.
How do I prepare for treatment?
Patients scheduled for hair removal should avoid plucking, electrolysis or hair waxing for six weeks prior to treatment. If you have had a history of herpes simplex virus and are scheduled for facial hair treatment, prophylactic antiviral therapy should be initiated. Also, hair should be 1/4inch in length so the laser is able to target it. Your skin should be thoroughly clean and dry. Do not wear any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or skin tanning products prior to laser treatment. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for 14 days before and after treatment
What can I expcet after treatment?
A cool compress or gel pack may be applied for comfort following your treatment. Any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours.
What precautions should I take after treatment?
After laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Your practitioner may advise additional precautions.
Are there side effects?
Your risks are minimal. Side effects may include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering, and purpura (a laser bruise), in the treated area—these usually do not last more than a few days. Permanent side effects are rare. Be sure to discuss potential side effects with your provider.
Are these treatments covered by insurance?
Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. Consult your insurance carrier for more information.
How much does it cost?

Even though scars are part of the body's natural healing process, they can sometimes be painful, unsightly, or simply inconvenient. Laser treats scars with beams of laser light used to reduce their appearance. The treatments also encourage regrowth of healthy skin. Lasers can be used to reduce several types of scars. Our practice treats the most common type of scarring, called hypertrophic scarring. This type of scarring results from an improperly healed cut or other injury. These scars are often raised slightly above the surrounding skin, and may be slightly discolored. Smaller hypertrophic scars heal to some degree over time, but many will always be visible without scar removal.
Spider veins are so named because these tiny veins just beneath the skin often radiate out from a central point, reminiscent of the shape of a spider. Spider veins can develop on any part of the body, including the face, thighs, calves, and ankles.
Laser Leg Vein removal works by selectively heating vein walls until they collapse and seal shut. The sealed vein is then absorbed by the body over a period of months. Most patients experience considerable improvement after 2 to 3 treatments, with 3 to 6 week intervals, depending upon the severity of the skin condition and level of treatment.
Laser is an effective method for getting rid of unwanted tattoos. There are a number of factors which will influence the treatment, for example the colors of the ink, the type of lasers available to your treating physician, and the size of the tattoo. Each tattoo is unique and each patient is also unique.
Amateur tattoos, which often fade on their own, are usually much easier to remove.
Multicolored professional tattoos with red, blue, yellow and other colors may require numerous treatment sessions before being totally erased. Black inks tend to come out quite easily, while green and white can be troublesome and require multiple wavelengths to be removed.
The removal of tattoos involves laser light being absorbed by the skin cells surrounding the ink of the tattoo so the body may remove the ink. If you are interested in removing a tattoo, the best thing to do is to consult with a physician with a great deal of experience in the process.
Beautiful, healthy skin can be accomplished through daily, established routines. The use of skincare products designed to address particular skincare issues are a necessity for most of us.
While we spend our hard earned dollars on over the counter skincare products that are supposedly designed to assist us with our particular skin issues, they might not deliver all that they should. There are better products that deliver better results.
Medical grade skin care products are composed of medically proven ingredients that are only available through a doctor. Most of these products have been developed through clinical research and the concepts that are found only through development. Over the counter skin care products are sometimes based on clinical research as well but the ingredients used in each jar or tube is minimal compared to what you find in a medical grade skin care product. Plus, over the counter skincare lotions and crèmes typically are not designed for deep penetration. Instead they stay on the surface of the skin and do not actually correct or heal a problem. They are a surface treatment and not a medical treatment.
The ability of medical grade skin care products to produce such great results has to do with the products and ingredients ability to penetrate the top layer of skin. The medical grade products work at the dermis, or middle layer of the skin, where collagen and elastin are contained at the basal, or bottom layer of the skin, where new skin cells are produced. Over the counter products, however, work only on the epidermis, or top layer of skin, where we shed skin cells and the new skin cells, created in the basal layer, eventually show up.
