Spider Vein Treatment Instructions (Legs)

Before beginning any Lyra laser treatment, please review the Lyra Laser Contra-Indications and Treatment Cautions found in the “General” section of our Health Forms page.

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

  1. Apply SPF 30 sunblock on all treatment areas that are exposed to the sun.
  2. Tell us if you have taken Accutane in the past six months or are planning to begin taking  Accutane.
  3. Inform us of any changes in medical history since your last visit.
  4. Shave the area to be treated with 12 hours prior to the treatment if necessary. (We can shave and prep you but we would have to charge for the time. You must schedule additional time for the prep with the front desk.)
  5. Important: Bring support hose 20-30 psi to your appointment. You may purchase these at a medical supply store or pharmacy.

Prior To Treatment, Do Not:

  1. Use aspirin, alcohol, NSAID’s (ibuprofen, Naprosyn, etc.), vitamin E, Gingko and St. John’s wart for 10 days prior to treatment. It is recommended that two Tylenol be taken one hour prior to the procedure.
  2. Use tetracylines and Zithromax for 7 days prior to treatment.

Post Treatment Instructions:

  1. Avoid sun exposure and wear SPF 30 sunblock for one month after treatment on all treated areas that may be exposed to the sun.
  2. Cold compresses may be applied to reduce redness and swelling.
  3. Please call us at the first sign of persistent pain or blistering.
  4. Use support hose 20-30 psi worn continuously for three to five days. (You may purchase these at a medical supply store or pharmacy.)
  5. Treatment area should be gently washed twice per day with tepid water and mild soap.

Post Treatment, Do Not:

  1. Exercise for three days after treatment.
  2. Use alcohol, aspirin, Advil, or any blood thinners for five days.
  3. Take hot showers, baths, use hot tubs or saunas for five days.

Post Treatment Expectations:

  1. Expect some redness and swelling, which may convert to “cat scratch” scab for 2-3 weeks.
  2. Leg vein resolution usually takes about 8-12 weeks. At the end of this process, some vessels may be gone while others may be lighter or not affected.

Laser Hair Removal Treatment Instructions

Before beginning any Lyra laser treatment, please review the Lyra Laser Contra-Indications and Treatment Cautions found in the “General” section of our Health Forms page.

Pre-treatment Instructions

  1. Apply SPF30 sunblock to treatment areas that are exposed to the sun. You may improve your results by limiting exposure to the sun, tanning beds or tanning lotions for four weeks prior to treatment.
  2. Tell us if you have taken Accutane in the past six months or are planning to begin taking Accutane.
  3. Inform us if there has been any change in medical history since your last visit.
  4. Call us 48 hours prior to your next appointment if no hair re-growth in area to be treated.
  5. Shave the area to be treated within 12 hours prior to the treatment. (We can shave and prep you at the regular hourly rate. You must schedule additional time for prep with the front desk.) If treating heavy beard, shave the morning of your appointment.
  6. Apply topical anesthetic as directed prior to coming in for your appointment.
  7. Do Not wax, tweeze or have electrolysis for four weeks prior to treatment.
  8. Do Not use Retin-A or glycolics for 3 days prior to treatment.
  9. Do Not use hair removal lotions or hair bleach for 4 weeks prior to treatment.

Post treatment requirements

  1. Apply SPF30 sunblock on all treated areas that may be exposed to the sun.
  2. Shaving or using clippers are the only acceptable methods of hair removal between treatments.
  3. Treatment area should be gently washed twice per day with tepid water and mild soap.
  4. Do Not expose the treated area to sun for prolonged periods for four weeks post treatment.
  5. Do Not use Retin-A or glycolics for 5 days post treatment.

Post treatment expectations

  1. Hair loss will be most evident ten days to two weeks after treatment. After your treatment you may expect a mild sunburn sensation that typically lasts 2-3 hours and redness and swelling that may last 1 day. To treat these side effects, please follow these steps:
    • Cold compresses may be applied to reduce redness and swelling.
    • Apply of 1% hydrocortisone cream or ointment in a thin layer after cold compresses.
    • Please call us at the first sign of persistent pain or blistering.

Vascular Pulsed Dye Laser Treatment Instructions

  1. Rinse the area with warm water only. Do not scrub or apply soap x 7-10 days.
  2. Take Vitamin C 500 mg 2x/day for 2 weeks.
  3. Should you develop an open area or blister, apply Bacitracin 2x/day and phone Dr. Marble’s office.
  4. Watch for signs and symptoms of infection (drainage, fever, pain, redness), and phone Dr. Marble’s office if needed.
  5. If the area begins to swell, keep it elevated and apply ice for 48 hours.
  6. Schedule your next appointment in 2-3 weeks.

Wound Care Post Operative Instructions

  1. Keep your wounds dry until your sutures are removed. If you do not have sutures, keep your wounds dry for 24 hours.
  2. Call Dr. Marble immediately if you develop a fever, redness around your wounds, or wound drainage.
  3. Take 500 milligrams of Vitamin C, 2 times a day. It facilitates the healing process.
  4. ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING or SECOND HAND SMOKE EXPOSURE! It deters the healing process. Also please avoid caffeine and products containing caffeine (soda, chocolate etc.).
  5. Avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen whenever you go outside if the wound area is exposed to the sun..
  6. Nutrition is important to the healing process. A diet high in protein promotes wound healing.
  7. If you have sutures, return in 7-14 days for suture removal.
  8. Approximately one to two weeks after your sutures have been removed begin massaging your incision sites with Vitamin E oil or Mederma. Use your index finger in a circular motion two times per day (for a total of 10 minutes daily). This will improve the appearance of your scar.

Lyra Laser Contraindications and Treatment Cautions

  1. Lupus or other auto-immune deficiency: The patient MAY be precluded from any type of laser treatment at this time. Gold Therapy precludes patients from treatment
  2. Pregnant: Discontinue treatment during pregnancy, return to treatment 8 weeks after conclusion of pregnancy
  3. Bleeding abnormalities: Patients are precluded from any type of vascular laser treatment.
  4. Psoriasis (All Treatments): Do not treat active outbreak area. Unaffected areas 2 cm away and beyond can be treated.
  5. Pulmonary embolism/blood clot (Vein Removal Treatment only): Patients are precluded from laser vascular treatments due to possible blood thinning properties.
  6. Leg ulcer or phlebitis (Vein Removal Treatment only): Do not treat active outbreak area. Unaffected areas 2 cm away and beyond can be treated.
  7. Blood thinning medication, Coumadin, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, etc. (Vein Removal Treatment only): Patients are precluded from any vascular procedure at this time. Discontinue blood thinner 3-5 days before treatment.
  8. Accutane®:The patient cannot be treated within one year of taking Accutane.
  9. Herpes simplex or fever blisters (All Treatments): The patient can not be treated during an outbreak AND should be treated with a prophylactic anti-viral three days pre and post treatment if treatment is being done in area of known outbreaks.

Pigment/Tattoo Laser Post Treatment Instructions

  1. Keep the treated area dry for 48 hours.
  2. When you do wash the area, avoid scrubbing and the use of soap.
  3. Apply Bacitracin and gauze to any open areas twice daily.
  4. Supplemental Vitamin C will facilitate the healing of your wounds. Take 500 mg by mouth twice daily.
  5. Keep the treated area elevated to minimize your swelling.
  6. Cold packs applied to the area for the first 24 hours will reduce swelling.
  7. You will need to schedule a follow-up appointment for 8 weeks following your appointment.
